New Chairman and President for MGMW
THE Midland Group of Motoring Writers has elected Andrew Noakes as its new chairman, and made outgoing chairman Ian Donaldson its first honorary president.
Noakes (right) becomes the Group's fourth chairman, following Cliff Webb, Tony Willard and Ian Donaldson. He is a freelance motoring journalist and author based near Ludlow in Shropshire. Alongside his media work he is course director of the unique Automotive Journalism MA at Coventry University. He has served on the Group committee since 2013, first as handbook editor and later website editor, and was chairman of the Guild of Motoring Writers from 2016 to 2018.
"It's a great honour to be elected Midland Group chairman," said Noakes. "This is a period of extraordinary change for the motor industry, with the challenges and opportunities of electrification on one hand and ongoing supply chain issues on the other. There's never been a more important time for organisations like the Midland Group to aid communications between the industry and the journalists who report on it. And as remote working becomes an established part of how we all operate, the Group plays an ever more useful role in keeping members connected, networked and supported."
Donaldson (left) held the post of Midland Group chairman for 25 years. "It was 25 years spent watching - and participating a little - as our industry transformed from paper to the ether and monthly or weekly deadlines to.. 'right now, please'," he said. In honour of his long service he has been appointed as the Group's first honorary president.
